Hey this is a great start. The iron looks good so far, but the gold is not reading as metallic. It might help to examine other handpainted examples to see what tricks you could use to make it more like gold or brass. https://www.artstation.com/artwork/1nvobX Also look around for examples of how to hand-paint crystal…
Hi! I'm kinda newbie here, willing to participate in Handpaint part of challenge. Pls, correct me if I'm wrong - Handpainted means no additional maps included (normals, ao etc.) but the diffuse map painted by hand, right? =) Thx.
Hey all, I'm going to give the handpainted category a try. Here is what I've got so far. @jake1210 - Digging the progress so far, I was torn between the handpainted and the hard surface this time. I may give it a try if I have time.
Great improvement going on in here :) Personally, I really love when you're allowing yourself to handpaint images instead of relying on textured brushes (like in the first one.) Have the confidence to keep handpainting, you've gotten a good handle on it! Keep going!
So I'm a total handpainting junkie these days and I'm loving it. This is my second handpainted piece evahr so I still have a long way to go in quality and speed It's part of a scene I'm working on in UDK. The spec and normal is more apparent there.
Great start for handpainting! Seem to have a bit of an uncanny valley thing going on with the realistic texturing and anime proportions. Should check out the method hazardous goes into for handpainting textures in this thread! Really great stuff. http://www.polycount.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1412796&postcount=41
I am a strong believer of you don't need tutorial for handpaint, at least not those kind, those would mostly only teach you how to copy. To handpaint you simply need to learn your light and color theory, and basic paint skill, then it's just about practice.
Shifting to another old project. Turning my Shyvana model, which was suppossed to be my entry for Polycount LOL Art Contest years ago, into a PBR character, since i suck at handpainted. Still works in progress. You could see the old handpainted and unfinished one in the first page.
Yeah it's nice to see that kind of scenary in handpainting style ! it changes from all the fantasy stuff :) I think your modeling is a bit to complexe in places it doesn't need to in handpainting. That strap around the pole or the attack on the triangle thing can easily be fake in paint, anyway i'm going to follow this :)
Great resume and portfolio Jessica! I like that your resume is short and sweet. Your handpainted stuff is really inspiring, I'm currently working on a game where everything we do is handpainted, and I've learned a lot in your wells thread. Keep up the good work and good luck!
