Silo, is by far a great modeling program, it also will give you a taste of sculpting. After working with 3dsmax for about 6 years and Maya on and off for the last year I really prefer Silo's simple approach.
People like that won't last very long, you can try to motivate them various ways like critiquing their work and showing examples of how to fix it.... or let them drown and waste their money....

That jaggy shadow is being cast by the plants in the window. If you look at the other window's shadow on the board it is really smooth. The last thing, this is quick lighting. I haven't actually done a 'production quality' lighting build yet.
Oxy- I have that gorilla in the last card you are showing. It was my childhood stuffed animal I always carried around. Our grandparents must have similar tastes (assuming that's how you got yours)
