thank you IStonia, that is what I was wanting was some feedback!... I love the direction VW is going btw... It has turned into one powerful modeling application! Awesome job! Keep it up, I am snagging every new beta trying things out.. Ciao' Mano' Ken aka StOrM3
Digital Tutors is awesome! Their vids are the easiest to follow and understand - especially for someone new to 3D. And they cover all the programs I'm trying to learn right now. I am thinking of getting my own subscription as well - after hand-in, move-out, and finding a semi-reliable source of internet (aka September).
Hey y'all! thank you for the replies. I ended up just reinstalling it. I tried y'alls suggestions' but they didn't work D: . I"ll just chalk this one up as an L, cause I still didnt figure out the main issue, but alas. Its working now. Thanks though :)
As a side note, if im understanding this correctly, in a way Maya's cage does control ray direction, when you have hard edges (Maya) (aka a smoothing group for Max users like myself)? Or do you just mean select "averaged normals" in Xnormal and that you don't have to use the cage?
Kings Cross 12 - 16 York Way Kings Cross N1 9AA The nearest temple of chicken gods (p.s Kingscross has holograms now, so don't freak out when you see floating women telling you how to use the escalators..) (edit stupid double post.. sorry..)
aha! thanks, you see i was using shift+i which is the shortcut hotkey to isolate selection but Ive still found no shortcut hotkey to unisolate selection. I guess the button on the viewport will have to do for now, would be better if I could just hit shift+i again to reveal all.
Aha yeah, the uniform colour is definitely a more performant solution, but on cliff faces like in the video it would be pretty visible until you get really far. And it's pretty expensive in engine, on one of my materials (that has other nodes as well) I'm getting 500+ instructions. Will try to make this more performant!
Aha I see. I figured that it had to do something with better technology. It's just very difficult (or even impossible) to get certain creases on the car and make it a curved shape and the end. Thanks for the information, as a car designer, can you give me some 3D modelling tips? Much appreciated.
2 of the other works are ripped from my friend Michael Kingery (aka Legato) http://legato895.deviantart.com/gallery/ I just emailed Mike. Cheap or 3D guy, can you post this on the BU board? Rip this guy a new one. I want him IP banned from BU.
You have Max. Ben Cloward supports DXT5_nm compressed vs. TGA non-compressed, so you can compare them with your own models. http://www.bencloward.com/shaders_NormalMapSpecular.shtml 3Dc (aka BC5 in DX10) is really really close to uncompressed in quality, you would be hard-pressed to see the difference.
