I'm pretty excited about this game, FC3 was great. The verticality seems like a very interesting gameplay element. Just hope going up on mountains isn't really boring compared to going down. Though I have to say the 'bad guy kills one of his own grunts to prove how evil he is' is really cliched these days...
"We would be poorly allocating resources if we'd make huge amounts of extra stuff just for a trailer," he continued. "So in a sense the trailer is a byproduct of the development. We wanted to have full control over the visuals and gameplay elements and Mikko is quite the guru when it comes to tech." Gamasutra posted a…
Yea those elements on the side look fine. I do mine with about the same amount of detail. Should look good when smoothened and baked down. I watched this video recently which helped me get the hang of this kind of modelling. It's from Max but same techniques should apply to Maya. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iFSwKgfXcX4
Upto you how you want to improve it ofc :) im just listing what i think could be done to make it more like the reference you was using. The key element you say you like about the runs is lacking in yours thats all. It is nice like i said. Just to me, sits somewhere in the middle.
Almost all of it is customisable, you can hide/unhide almost all of the UI elements (just like in '08) I had to do some altering of the UI for 2012 but coming from 08 myself it's quite simple to do. The screen being squashed sounds like the Animation slider and status bars which you can hide easily.
I really have no idea what the equivalents would be in Max and MR terminology. They are just simple area lights with default values other than the different intensities, which were 3.0 W/srm2 and 2.0 W/srm2. The GI is set to 0.75 W/srm2. It probably doesn't mean much to you, but conveys the balance of the different…
There is something to be said for working towards a common goal - that of battling it out in the name of ones own community in friendly competition with another. I think much of that would be lost to some degree with many of these suggestions of a simplified format. Not to say a new structure isn't necessary, but I think…
same spirit, but probably shorter sleeves, and without hood I'm going for a techninja kind-of look, inspired by fashion such as this the only thing I don't know is if I include glowing elements (fck yea emissive maps) and if I keep the stylized hair or make more realistic alpha planes sort of mirror's edge x deus ex
Hey, good start on enviro! Fix the textures though, they look really muddy (low rez). Its not enough to slap some random stone-moss together and call that ground. Large shapes like cobblestones have to be sculpted and baked into normal maps. Add some higher definition elements - stones, mud cracks, grass. Good luck!
The sticker looks much better than the stamp you had, but I worry about the "humor" elements this early in the model. Imagine putting the icing on a cake that was undercooked and lacked any sugar. The analogy is meant to demonstrate the importance of nailing the material definition before adding the flair. But thank…
