Hmm, on a related note, 3DS Max 7 on my computer here slows to a crawl when I move any of the viewports onto a different monitor. I kinda like Maya's ability to "tear off" a viewport and maximise it on a different monitor, but when I try stuff like this in Max, it drops to about 2fps and half the icon images disappear. I…
Er, I wouldn't write that out. A lot of people can touch a lot of props. IMO keeping it general (see above) allows you to talk about the scene so you can point out what your tasks on it were, and which artwork is not yours specifically. Or, you can work through the headache and do this on every image: Scene dress by: Dick…
also, max 7 has a sweet thing called skin morphs that could fix this probelm too. Its not the best way since it can be fixed ala the methods above, but if it just isnt working for you, skin morphs allow you to resculpt a deformation the way you want it. It's also a good idea to set up a range of motion with your skeleton…

[ QUOTE ] Wow, thanks for the link to Ben Cloward's blog. I didn't know he had that. Very informative reading. About the UV seam being a bug between v7beta and v7, it seems Ben's investigation was only into what happens when the adjoining UV edges are in the same orientation in UV space... yeah that's a dumb bug to make.…
icewolve: they're done all photoshop 7 and a wacom tablet, completely digital. there's no special trick; they were done almost exclusively with a pretty standard brush, just set to varying sizes and opacities (with the exception of the feathery background on Alyx, that was a special brush). as far as any seriously concrete…
You might try this book-long tutorial: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/det...nce&s=books (this is for Max 7) There is one for Max 6 also. It's not perfect and the author misses the opportunity to show you some things like model optimization for animation, but it's a basic walk through of modeling, rigging, and…

yes you want to keep things as low poly as you can if they aren't used well but right now I would say this scene is really low poly. Like last gen stuff (ps2, xbox) The ps3 and 360 can handle tons of polys (tris) It is usually the texture resolutions that will make the biggest difference in performance. And you could use a…
Wacom: Have the tablet sense its orientation and rotate the layer/image accordingly in programs such as Sketchbook and Photoshop. I usually rotate my sketchbook when drawing, but doing so with the tablet, and not having the drawing on screen rotate at all is confusing as hell. Either that or incorporate a 360 degree…
