I reinstalled the newest decimation master. Apparently I didn't take care of this when I upgraded. Either way I am getting better results. I'll post back if I continue to have issues. Fantastic work. The model does not need to be one continuous mesh. In fact, there's a lot of good reasons not to make it like that. You can start by retopologizing each individual subtool by itself, then if you want to stitch certain ones together -- like maybe connect the boots to the legs -- that shouldn't be too hard.… -

Dataday- Thanks but I've always thought that sculpting in layers like that was taking the process a bit too far maybe. Re: Shading Errors with Normal map
Triangulating in Maya changes the shading (you can see if you compare the vertex-normals before and after), but you need to triangulate or the result could be even worse. Ideally before baking outside of Maya you want to lock your vertex normals, and then triangulate. Not sure if that's your problem here though, I'd second… -

Again, thanks for the feedback guys. I'm continuing to push the spec map to make the materials correct. I'm still working on textures; adding in more grunge and wear-and-tear.
