@Odow We cater to the community in general. Yes, the Indie Mixer is more geared towards freelancers and more established game devs and this Art challenge is more geared towards students and recent grads but anyone can join, even if you've been out of school for a while you can always learn from others. -

Update: finished the art test, the company wants me do some freelance jobs for them (yay!) in meanwhile, i colored the 4 character concepts that originally were just line art. hopefuly they don't stick out as much anymore. I'd still want to get more opinions on layout choice btw. -
Re: Why you need an education
I'd personally like to see more game artists actually be real artists who could work in any industry rather than just be specifically focused on the game industry. If you're a freelance game artist wouldn't it be good to pick up some illuatration jobs to fill in the gaps when things slow down? -

I'm semi going the other way for the time being (picking up more real time focused freelance work). You should be fine. Working with real time will be a bit of an adjustment for you but nothing all that bad-most of the terminology will be similar. Best of luck, I think you'll be great. Love that shot of yours. -

salarys aint be the highest in the world but all contracts I've seen so far are around the same my sister earns as a midwife and alot of friends earn something simmilar as well. so while it's not going to make you a king it's enough to live and after all you're allowed to work freelance as well in most positions.
