Some grain bags. They all use the same mesh and normals. Made mesh-variations with some FFD modifiers. These are quite large in size, so a few in packs will do.
Or just apply a 3x3 ffd modifyer and play around with the control points EDIT: looking at your wireframe you might need to add some veritcal segments for it to work.
Not tried this yet myself, but how about making your own ghetto flowpath by using a wire deformer on a lattice (aka FFD) which in turn is applied to your geo?

I've decided that I'm going to use a FFD modifier on the chest, instead of modeling it with a bend already in it. I'm still trying to decide how I want to tackle the flag...
