heh, why wouldn't the 2 most used shaders in maya work correctly? /facepalm - thank you Shaderfx :) I thought it was a broken shader so I kept looking into how to repair broken shaders but apparently that wasn't the issue. yay problem solved! sort of... Any-who thanks for the advice :) -

Hey, a little late to reply but I found this post while searching for the same issue you had. Mind sharing what your end command for the button was so if anyone else has this issue they can solve it also? I managed to fix it by exporting a separate cage file but not in one button. -

It's nearly finished. It distorts things behind it around it. And it reflects objects (although not accurately, but I can't see it mattering much). Things that need to be solved now, it still looks like glass, and its glowing. Also the black tacos, I guess the uv manipulation is behind it or something, I'm not entirely… -

() as a sneaky aside. the one tool of the nex set which is the big attraction for me. obvious as it is and available i'm sure in most any other modelling package. . . split poly's by clicking and dragging from outside a mesh. any folks know of any custom tool ( s ) that integrates into maya that solves this functionality ? -

If you set the tangent space on your lowpoly mesh to XN/Mikkt that should solve any tangent space issues. Setting it on your highpoly won't have any affect. It's important to make sure that the mesh is triangulated in the same way between Toolbag, Substance and the final target engine/renderer as well -

Totally agree. It's easy to rant but it'a a lot harder to solve a problem. We at Polycount should be Problem Solvers. Not just for her but for every student, post grad, or aspiring artist. I've already had a conversation with someone that currently goes to the school I went to and I helped them with resources and advice. -

Yea, we know it's not 'solving everything' But it's much needed reform. It saves the country money (eventually) It would be nice to be able to help all of our poor in a myriad of ways, but this is all we get. And for the people who can't afford health insurance, it should be significantly more affordable. It's a step in… -

You could edit the vertex normals, using an Edit Normals modifier. Select all the normals on the front by Face, and move them somewhat towards the same direction. You still want some curvature for the normals, since the surface curves inwards. But unifying them a bit more should help solve this. -

I think its worth the time too. Personally i used them for organic stuffs like the cloth creases which i feel is better to have a quick sculpt in mudbox rather than using photoshops painting in 3d sculpting tools solve the UV texture seams issue too. -

well i don't know why that isn't popping up for you, may need to delete you preferences folder, not the funnest thing to do but often solves similar problems. You should also be able to access the subdivs axis buy click edit>attribute editor in the channel box menus.
