you're using an dinosaur as reference, why not use real life armor/guns as ref? plenty of cool military vehicles you can use for armor/weapon ideas. Right now you just have some random stuff placed on top of it. try and figure out how a person might use current fabrication methods and armor design to fit out a dinosaur. At…
Most hardware nowadays is more limited by fillrate than by vertex counts: PS1 0.36 mil tris/sec, PS3 1200 mil tris/sec (3333 times as much) PS1 33mpix/sec, PS3 13200 mpix/sec (400 times as much) N64 0.15 mil tris/sec, Wii 50 mil tris/sec (333 times as much) N64 31mpix/sec, Wii 950 mpix/sec (30 times as much) Xbox 117 mil…
re:snapping ... I was a long time hater on MODO's snapping but it is WAY better in 801. Not perfect, but it has a lot of missing features filled in now and it's actually somewhat pleasant to use.
If you don't want to pay anything then yea stick to Blender and Krita. UE4 is also free and very good. A lot of software can be used on subscription: -Maya LT = $30/month -Modo Indie = $15/month -Photoshop = $20/month -Substance Designer+Painter Indie = $20/month Zbrush is worth having, but it's not that cheap ( about $800…
Keep in mind that the felt goes up on the rails. I recommend looking into action and fallofs (especially fallofs) next. There is nothing like lattice and FFD in Modo so you'll need fallofs. Here is the exhaustive list of tutorials - http://community.thefoundry.co.uk/discussion/topic.aspx?f=36&t=80320 This one was particularly useful - https://vimeo.com/10434206
Truthfully, I enjoyed the 701 build up ... Brad had a whole series of videos there which was fun. 801 launch was a bit of a dead fish but you can't win them all. A great version, mind you, but the launch was definitely limp. Especially the hour long web cast event where basically ... nothing happened.
