close this one please - yes, substance in unity is quite flawed... so I will use it wherever possible (aka not hindered by bugs) and export bitmaps wherever it stops working

Is your heightmap 16bits ? The stepping you see here is called banding, and because of the lack of bit depth in the heightmap, the normal generation end-up like this (aka broken).

Not tried this yet myself, but how about making your own ghetto flowpath by using a wire deformer on a lattice (aka FFD) which in turn is applied to your geo?

well .. i dunno .. expose and how corners simply blew me away in it's usefulness .. every now and then i try to instinctively use it on my pc ... alas to no sucess
