      Not used Mecanim, but in the legacy system, you can simply set the speed of the animation to a negative number. Can you do that with Mecanim?

      Is the system in Modo actual openSubdiv? or is it some work-around the patent approximation? Because support loops should be completely unnecessary with opensubdiv

      Freeze Fransforms (Maya)/Reset Xform (Max) Make sure you're on the right coordinate system (x-up or y-up)

      As a principal yes. Of course this may not be put in to system and abused for the purpose of reselling textures. But as long as you use it properly you'll be fine :)

      I wouldn't emphasize speed to a beginner, at first it's all about getting it working, understanding the caveats to the system and having it look good.

      Yeah i did try topogun but it seemed to crash a lot on my system. I prefer 3ds max for retopo TBH

      Yep, it's Pjanssen's tool. A hard/soft edge system like Maya's is so much better than smoothing groups, imho.
