Hey Sevenfingers. Glad to have you aboard my thread:). You're right - I've could've planned the density better, but in retrospect it was enough to get the sculpt detail i wanted. The polycount isn't an issue for the game. This character has 3 LOD levels (5170, 2600 and 1500 tris), and we won't be displaying that many units… -

i HAND PAINTED a gray pattern for a up and down beach little dunes , then in Crysis I placed my shaded plain noised sand texture , with this bump normal over in the bump position , plus I added a noise normal for grain sand in the decal position and tiled at 5 ..... here is the result , how looks? Can it be improved?… -

Whats with the resolution? Thats a 2k map? It looks like its 512x512 or something. The amount of scratches looks fine, and the whole thing looks really worn and nice. I think it could use some more contrast though. Overall it looks good, I'm just confused as to why it looks so low resolution when its 2k. -

your highpoly of the street light looks great. I definatley agree with the comment about wasted UV space also 2048is pretty high for a smaller prop like this you could probably get away with a sharped 1024 for the diffuse and a 512 for the normal and spec, something to keep in mind for next time. cant wait to see more… -

Warby did a write up on his solution you can find it here: http://boards.polycount.net/showthread.php?t=51088 However on something as important as the face you may not be able to get it perfect, but that's the only solution I know of, unless your target engine has specific support for it. -

doesnt matter unless its height and width are a power 2. For example you could have a 64x256 or a 2048x1024, and in your case a 512x256. I think some other engines do some crazier shit like you could have a 1024x1280 (1280 comes from adding the power of 2 factors together, so in this case 1024 + 256) It never really made… -

Overall, aesthetically, it looks pretty good. A few hitting points: The roof choice is bad. It's the wrong material for the situation. Secondly, the middle section being at a higher angle is stretched more than the rest. The doors on the right side (if looking at the front) have no foundation like the front or other side.… -

This is being done in Max. Here's what they said about it: "The diffuse texture for a raceday object should be contained on a single 1024x1024 sheet. Create an Ambient Occlusion map sized 512x512 for the LOD00 model and apply it to all three LODs of the model using a shell material" Is a shell material a shader?
