Nice work! Though does the circular hatch on the top of the turret need to be capped with such a dense web of polygons? Seems to me like you could cut around 6 edge loops out. Good luck with the bottom half!
Also keep in mind that textures go along way and can describe geometry that is not there. If that makes sense... Oh and triangles are not bad, it looks like you are trying to do this with no tri's so you're ending up with a bunch of unnecessary polygons.
carlo_C it wouldn't be a bad idea to do both. Create legos to put the buildings together in game but also throw together some assembled buildings that maybe have less polygons so that you can use them in the distance.
Well this is your high poly model, they often go as high as 4 million, just depends on if your pc can handle the high polygon count. What Raider said about hiding certain parts will definitely help.
Couple of crits concerning the alpha: -you could probably crop the polygons a bit, save texture overdraw. -you've got some floaty spots. -the black outlining there makes it feel very cartoony, while the rest of the model isn't
Looks good so far, but i would suggest to remove the invard thing on the head, To get more square polygons instead of long ones better for sculpting. Its not so hard to add something like that in sculpting anyway. :)
If you place more CVs at the corners of the spline/curve you use to extrude your surface, and less along the straight paths, the resulting extruded polygon will have more tessellation in the areas in which you placed more CVs.
Does it really need transparency? What happens if you save it just as a regular greyscale image without any transparency, and use it as an alpha? Second question... does your highpoly geometry have enough polygons to hold that detail?
chamfer vertex? that junk is in maya now but I find it at leat 99% useless. You can connect two open edges with geo between the two, just use the append to polygon tool? Maybe or terminology is confusing me.
heh.. yea its alright everything can use 2048's these days. also polygons doesnt matter in next gen nice work tho! can't you show some different angles and a few detail shots?
