@DavidCruz Thanks, I've taken a few looks at blender and remain entirely unconvinced- it's nice but trendy things really aren't for everyone. I'm thinking Modo might be more my speed for finally switching to something besides Sketchup, and I'll probably stick with 3dsmax for animating. (Houdini looks awesome but maybe a…
Not sure I understand so bear with me - have you tried changing to Local coordinate system? The default is "View" - see article below for more info. https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/3ds-max/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2016/ENU/3DSMax/files/GUID-0F3E2822-9296-42E5-A572-B600884B07E3-htm.html
In Max, Opacity will mask everything. So, use a Compound Material type, like Shellac. Put everything except reflection into the base material slot, and put just the reflection into the shellac material slot. http://docs.autodesk.com/3DSMAX/15/ENU/3ds-Max-Help/files/GUID-B7CB7446-693D-4363-B02B-135BFE1F4700.htm
I use Modo for pretty much everything I can. All of my personal work is done in it. Love it. We're a 3DSMax studio here at work, but I've used Modo for bits and pieces here and there (any high poly modelling for one, some baking, retopo, UVing) and gone in/out via FBX without a hitch.
PyrZern thanks I'll separate the head. your model looks good but your weapon is really BIG Spoon great job but the shoulder is a little bit small. I used Zbrush for scuplting then made some stuff in 3dsmax BradMyers82 nice start ,I like the head but I think the legs are a little bit big.
if you want to learn 3dsmax, use the park bench tutorial by ben mathis... http://vimeo.com/27213238 it's pretty much an introduction to the software more than a "let's make a bench". it teaches you your way around max and you just happen to make a bench while you're at it. after that, just make cool stuff!
@Hazerdous Thats quite a compliment, thanks - Xoliul's shader is really finely tuned (and 3dsmax's shadow support is a killer feature). I see this shader more as a technical exploration and as a learning tool, which is why I've separated all the core shading functions out into compact sections to help other people learn…
Ok Can you suggest me then some dvd courses like : 1 Learn Zbrush 3.5 ( the last one possibly, I noticed that old tutorials simply arent working couse they changed keys etc... ) 2 3d next generation texturing with PS etc ( especially exteriors ) 3 3dsmax modeling severall.... :)
Here is the result of the teapot bake from 3dsmax. I used 2 boxes close to each other for slicing using boolean. Applying "cap holes" on the teapot before the boolean yields better results. https://youtu.be/BkAmOWc838o I rendered an image sequence, and put them together using a sprite sheet script in Photoshop.
Recently made the switch to Modo from C4D / 3DSMax land. Im absolutely loving it. Even though I wasnt finished the modelling yet of this Ghost In The Shell spider tank, I wanted to do some quixel tests to it. This was a quick once over: Texture scale is way wrong but I like the way its headed.
