well this is a reference for her main look. For the anatomy reference I was using a girl form 3DSK database. I am planning to project some parts from her on the mesh for the texture. I think it will look more realistic.
They most likely use proceduraly created trees (aka something like Speedtree). Would be way too much work to model a super realistic forest by hand. Here is an example for speedtrees used in Avatar: http://www.speedtree.com/avatar/
Thanks guys! Yeah, Zetheros, we're gonna try and ground it more in reality. Realistic textures should help too. Started concepting the weapon. Lots of details to work out, but I'll figure them out in the modeling phase.
Even if you aren't using substance I highly recommend giving this a look as it goes over a bunch of things like color zones and subtle noise to get the skin looking realistic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ywhVkZBtq8
Heya, did you find a good way for texturing the horse? I'm kind of in the same position, using Substance Painter and having some trouble achieving realistic specular/gloss! I'd be glad to hear how you did it.
When I first saw the title I thought it was going to look like it does in the anime, pleasantly surprised to see you do this in a more realistic approach ^^. The floor is looking amazing. But are you going to do the characters as well?
I've been able to do Naruto's and Cardcaptor sakura sort of styles before. Since that's all I seem to be able to draw for concepting usually. -_- This time I'm attempting something more realistic since that's the aim for the model itself.
Alright so I'm trying to practice making more realistic looking characters and I feel I've been staring at this too long and could use some input on things to improve in the anatomy. I'm aiming to make this character:
Make sure to give yourself a living wage for freelance. The wiki has some solid advice for it http://wiki.polycount.com/wiki/Freelance#Freelance_Rates Look at your living situation and see if its realistic. What would the kickstarter include?
Looking good thus far. This video here ought to be a descent reference for lapels, even if you aren't using Blender: http://cgcookie.com/blender/2012/07/30/creating-a-realistic-head-in-blender-part-07-clothing/
