Check with your Uni and see if they have subscriptions to any sites such as DigitalTutors or Eat3D since I know a lot of schools have them, especially if they're a tech/digital art school. As far as free stuff goes. Here are a few. _Disting on Twitch has a few videos of some scenes that he created, some pretty cool stuff.…
Thanks praetus, I appreciate your help. That book sounds very useful, I'm always trying to find interessting 3D books to read in my spare time (and when I've got cash!), I think I'll give this one a shot. I'm signed up with Digital Tutors, and they've got a video tutorial which sounds very similar to that gnomon one…
Congrats to all the ID guys!!! Just finished Rage and really enjoyed it, stellar looking game - you guys all did a fantastic job there. Would love to see some of the source art if you guys get a chance for any art dumpage. Also if any ID guys read this and wouldn't mind passing my details on to Jean (Rochefort) I lost…
I guess I need to add a new playlist in Digital Tutors for Mari. That's a no brainer for me to get. I've owned Modo 701 for awhile now but I was initially turned off at the lack of videos at the time (you had to pay for them thru luxology and DT wasn't making any new ones). So I got invested in Maya and now that I'm used…
Don't think your being harsh . For most people it easier to relate to a digital character with human characteristic than a character that try to look identical to us and fails at doing it . It why stuff like TED works or cg cartoons , while thing like spirited within bombed horribly , and would bomb again if they tried it…
The reference images is great. Tons of nice details to work with... If you are dead set about staying out of zbrush then you might want to get out the digital camera and go find some nice detail textures. The geometry on those simple props looks fine so far, but I think you are going to need higher quality textures to pull…
Lucas bought Digital Molecular Matter a year or two ago, I think... their stuff really blows away everything except maybe Crysis which it still seems to beat pretty badly (haven't seen the new Gears stuff, though). Props to Lucas Arts for really making good use of DMM, too. The destruction in Force Unleashed seems to be…
HAH! I saw this thread and simply HAD to post. Good job bringing it back from oblivion. Anyone else remember bryce ;p hey when I was in middle/high school that was the jam for school projects! only one thats fairly recent was that alien head was my first character in Max, maybe 2005ish? edit: funny anecdote that top woman…
I think it was Digital Domain that did some shots for MW2. And I agree about XCOM, that game was just so great. I think the later games lost some of the essence that made the first great. Hmm, a BF2 style (but slower paces)mod/game for XCOM could be interesting... Crusader No Remorse, loved that game. Rolling through a…
I am from Toronto, and I would avoid these advertised game programs. They cost quite the penny and dont seem to be of much value. More often than not, private institutions just want to cash in on the growth of the industry. If you want to do game art, you could always consider an art school degree, or something in digital…
