make something you want to every now and then. Not art for your portfolio. not to impress others. not for your boss. not for any greater purpose. Just because you want to. This doesnt have to be game art, it could be anything that gets your creative juices flowing, writing a song if you play an instrument, go dancing, go…
I hope this gives a better understanding as to why the current mesh shows a smooth metal style, once in zbush after paintovers have been created, i hope to achieve the above style! Ill post some paintovers on here, and if anyone feels the creativity juices flowing! have a go and make a suggestion or paintover i'm more than…
For me it was the very first time I saw the Dinosaurs in Jurassic Park as a kid. That's the exact moment I knew I wanted to be a 3d artist. Something not visual, but story wise was playing Planescape: Torment. The depth of story in that game blew my mind. Super creative writing. I still hold that up as the best story in a…
Personally, I dig the overlapping action on the ammopack and the overall speed of the Character. Looks to be a real journeyman, and I think you captured that character very well. Perhaps we'll see the judges give a bit of creative freedom within these challenges. -Especially if the animation fits the character so well…
I do agree that currently polygons are the best way to make out 3d games but I also think that it would be a shame to not explore other creative possibilities. Like Richard Kain was saying we havent even seen someone try to make something cool with this tech yet and its only in its first generation so its hard to make a…
That's a separate question that could have it's own thread, but I don't think it'd be useful to employers, and it could be actively harmful to you. Personal work should be your chance to experiment and refine to stretch your technical and creative skills; you shouldn't turn it into a race. Art tests will tell the studios…
I started with some quick rough ideas about what is in my mind. Usually in personal projects I noticed that I work faster if I do rough drawings, jump in 3d package, block out simples models, make a print screen,go back to photoshop draw over and then this back and forth process works ok in my creative development.
With that first character, you've got all the colour changes lined up with the polygons, so with a bit of creative UV-mapping, you could map it all to an 8*8 instead of a 2048*2048. That would make it very interesting from a technical standpoint as well as from an artistic one (and you'd save just under 12MB of memory one…
Hi Giles, Your sculpt is looking pretty good, especially for your first attempt! I think you can learn allot from Digital Tutors's "Creative Development" series since they focus mostly on detailed monsters/creatures. http://www.digitaltutors.com/11/training.php?pid=823&autoplay=1…
