Quest narratives are usually written by Game Designers. Just one of the many tasks they do. There's also game lore, but that's usually covered by Designers too. We have some links on the wiki about design, might give some ideas. http://wiki.polycount.com/wiki/Game_design
well JacqueChoi, to be fair to gam animators there is more than working with the gamedesigners on different kind of games. Cinematic cutscene animator is for example an job position which is pretty well known. But i agree completly with your post
i am confused, you seem to be acting as if from software has no idea of gamedesign and has no clue why dark souls and demon souls sold so well. trust them, they know what they do and they are aware of the weaknesses and strenghts of their games.
p..people still play this game? I got to lvl58 in Hell, didn't find the gamedesign around dying to elite mobs over and over again to be amusing, haven't played since the second week or so.. you guys are hardcore fo' shizzle
I've got a word. Your working away then someone like a boss, producer, publisher or gamedesigner comes up with a stupid idea that wont add anything to the game and probably make you stay late and you just want them to shut up and go away. Get game guides. They feature complete level layouts better than art-of books. Once you have copies in hand refer to gameplay videos on youtube (if you don't own game) to see how levels look from player's point-of-view and gamedesign mechanics.

Dont forge that game design =//= modeling or artwork Gamedesign is another job, you wrtite documents and generate user experiences, do balancing and all these things. Game Development is what you want to do, and as an artist. Be careful not to go to a game design degree and wonder why you learn so much theory and things…
