You can duplicate geometry and flip it instead. For instance, if you have a reflective floor in a room, you take the entire room's geometry, flip it, then place it underneath the floor and have the floor be slightly transparent. Looks pretty good, but I think you need to work on your material definition more. The metals need some stronger and glossier specular (might need a bit darker diffuse too).
