Blenderhead: I tried that out, and yes. The program definitely has its quirks. I'd always avoided art applications with lots of natural media effect brushes, but this stays true to its purpose: minimum distractions. Way better than my experiences with Painter. This was my test subject, using Sketch 2 and Wet Soft in the…
I'm from a Maya bkgd and I use this script in Max. http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/scripts/hard-soft-edge I haven't had many problems with it yet. But if you wanna stick to traditional smoothing groups here, you'll need to illustrate how you have your current groups set up to really tackle this scenario I think.
here ir another one a bit more soft in the transition between muscles. Im having some hard time with the shoulder part but in this last one seems im geting close, guess im gonna study another part for now. Hope you guys like it :D and like i already sayed C&C are very much Welcome.
I haven't watched his tutorial, but he may not be "pre-darkening" it if he's mixing that "AO" map with a soft-light or overlay layer in photoshop. If that is the case, then that middle grey will be missed, and he'll be baking some shadows and some directional lighting into the image, but at least he wouldn't be darkening…
I go for the contrast in shapes first and foremost. Difference between hard and soft outlines. and lastly, difference between complexity and simplicity or detail and lack thereof. And once i have something nice visually, a good story will pop up along the way, and sometimes this story might affect the final look but i tend…
Sectaurs brought up a good point: naming. we need a flashy title that'll help drag attention to our already awesome box-art of hand drawn soft porn, intricately drawn on a cardboard 'box' that looks like a 'something' from which there is an apt place for teh CD to pop out from. or did we not plan on having something like…
Hey Rich, cool stuff, I signed up on your forums a while back (when you first announced this over on CGTalk) but I don't think I ever gave the tools a fair run for their money. Judging by the new videos you've been hard at work, I will definitely give this stuff a try - the UV soft selection and smoothing looks great!
Already said all this in IRC, but, just to be formal - All excellent work, noel. The only complaint i have is a really minor one, everything looks a little bit too universally soft and smooth. I'd go over and sharpen up the blending and gradients in some areas to create a little bit more contrast between forms. paintover…
Try Edit Polygons>Normals>Set To Face. Then Edit Polygons>Normals>Soften/Harden and select the faces you want to be soft, type in 180 and hit apply. Then select the edges you want to be hard and type in 0 and hit apply. If you ever have any questions feel free to AIM me. I'd be more than happy to troubleshoot anything.
Loving it so far , made me realise how much I missed your cute soft clean forms and dayglo colour choices, not so many do as well with that style as yourself. I'm a sucker for that whole Speedball, Jet Set Radio, 2000ad pop culture stuff though, I suppose transmetropolitan is the most recent 'cool' successor to that stuff.
