The high poly and low poly are now complete, using a variety of modelling techniques but mainly traditional Sub-D and Chamfersmooth. A red material was used to indicate mirrored and duplicate shells to save on UV space. The back handle ring looks a little choppy - I'll see how this looks with bake and add loops if needed.… -

A couple ways to do this. If you can write shaders (or have a node-based shader editor like Shader Forge) I'd suggest making a Saturn's-rings kind of mesh, as a billboard (always faces the camera). Tile a gradient around it as a mask, and use two noise textures scrolling in two directions to make the corona flares move.… -

The sunlight in the background is way to crazy. I first thought it was an explosion or something like that. There is also to much fog in the foreground. I would try to have some billowy fog on the ground like on the second concept. It's very difficult to view the shots not only because there are so many similar pictures… -

Hmm. Can't you just use Clamp addressing to prevent edge filtering problems? I tired Bixorama for this, but they had a ton of artifacts... a ring of clamped pixels around the center face, and no multisampling. Yuck! HDRShop is prohibitively expensive ($400 for 2 yrs), so that's out. Max does a decent job of rendering a… -
