Is XNormal Still Useful? Should I Switch To Marmoset?
I was just doing a tutorial on creating hair for real time characters and the tutorial used XNormal to bake ID, normal, AO, and height maps. It took an insanely long time to render them all, around 4 hours total, with the AO map taking 3 hours of the total render time. I suspect that maybe my poly count was too high… -

Its a good start man. With metals, you want to have most of your detail in the specular map really. A good topology is the base for a good UV, which is the base for a good bake, which is the base for a good texture. :) The shape of the granade is not the problem, the topology is. I would really watch the tutorial mentioned above (there is also a good knife/kukri tutorial from the same guy). Try to get a clean low poly… -

@PogoP: Check out Virtuosic's tutorial in 3dmotive, Chris Albehuln's tutorial and the GDC Example Map has a vertex blend material you can mess around with. Also check out the Unchartered 2 Snow and Ice thread for more information. EDIT: If memory serves me correct UDK terrain works in a different way. Though wouldnt hurt… -
