They should have just stuck with the blocky aliens in the first film, they were perfectly adequate as you only ever saw them for a second anway. You can paint on color, roughness, bump, and metallic channels all at once and adjust them each quite easily. You don't have to faff about with setting the shader up either. If you need to paint absurdly high-res stuff Mari is still your best bet, of course, although you can easily use the external editor projection… -
