the 5: I wouldn't bake broad shading into the spec map or the diffuse map. you've got a normal map for that and most engines these days will take care of dynamic shadowing. Cavity/AO is fine but your 'ambient occlusion' looks more broad where it should really just be focusing on contact/crevices so far as that sword goes…
Nice style, the painted on reflections on the metal irk me though. With the up close detail shots they look great but from further away they look more like strips of paint. I'm not sure whether it will break your style but mixing some texture into the reflections might help to break them up a bit and get it looking a tad…
the weird thing is i wasn't using the cage, i was just using the high poly and i tried to make the project distance higher but still didn't read it. was weird.
@ Daz - lol yes the spelling errors will be corrected. Some spelling errors in particular creep up on me often. I'll get that taken care of. I got a similar comment on CGtalk about the rigid nature of the model. I agree completely after seeing the examples posted in both forums, but I'm not sure how advantageous it would…
There's a difference between "I need money" and "I need a job". What I need is a job, a stable life, 9-5, independence, knowing I'm going to be in x city for the forseeable future. Sability. I'm not aching for money at this point, i have some savings. Isn't it better for those freelance 'quick money infusion' jobs to go to…
walls are looking a little to clean, maybe you should add some dirt to break it up and maybe some ripped up carpet to help break up the floor a little bit. and your lighting may need to be more contrasty to help create a good mood . lol. I thought this was a forum for 3d art. still it does look like a nice new area , wish…
No matter how you make your model, UV unwrapping simply means that you are breaking your model down -- just like flattening cardboard boxes-- so that it can all be layed out in 2d space. So if you do separate pieces like suggested, you are going to have a very easy time laying out your UV's, as you will just be breaking…
Break down all the steps that are required to finish the job. Estimate the time required for each step. Prioritize said steps. If you're not going to make it at all after breaking it down you need to tell your lead what you CAN do. Maybe that's enough. Maybe they'll get you some help. Maybe nothing changes in which case…
If you want to increase the strength of the normal map, a quick way is open it in Photoshop, duplicate the layer, and set the duped layer to overlay. It will double the strength. Do not go too crazy or it will look jacked up. Edge padding is for mip mapping, or more specifically to fix the issues caused from mip maps. When…
clean and to the point. good job. i so need to redo my portfolio in the next couple of weeks. one of the things i am going to do is get rid of the lighbox/shadowbox interface. i don't recommend it, and i've gotten a lot of negative reviews from using it. i was using shadowbox for a while and everyone repeatedly stated they…
