I agree with the others in this thread too. With your normal map, this tutorial springs to mind: http://www.farfarer.com/temp/normalMapMiniTut.jpg if you remove any trace of lighting in your diffuse/albedo map then that texture will be ready for Physically-based texturing (PBR). Have a look at Unreal Engine 4's…
+1 Good one Dickie, i won't build anything like that any soon, but this may become handy for the future, nice tutorial. skyline5gtr: I once saw a guy at zbrushcentral that did a tutorial on this very part of a katana with highend results(it was a fancy sword in that case), i can't remember who it was. Maybe have a go and…
Very cool. Ive been wanting to get into doing some digital painting stuff, and I keep looking for some simple tutorials to explain some basic things, but all I ever find is "tutorials" of people speedpainting...which usually has no audio or it only has lame music. Ive been trying to find something like this for a while.
Hey nice start with the models jbelcher. Add some chamfering in those major corners so they do not appear so razor sharp. Also for Unreal you don't need no stinking books! Google UDN tutorials, basically a series of tutorials by Epic that teaches you all the basics about using UDK. It should get you started =)
Oh!...in addition, another excellent online tutorial library is Gumroad: http://polycount.com/discussion/137585/gumroad-tutorials-list Plus if you've thoughts about a future specialisation somewhere down the track, then accordingly as a 3D Hardsurface Modeller myself I'll shamelessly plug Tor Frick's extremely useful GM…
How does he know hes turning in work from tutorials, and/or cheating? If they are from tutorials it should be easy to prove this one way or another. Just not sure why your instructor would ask you for help if he knew for sure that the student was cheating, so perhaps it needs rephrasing until that is the case. Innocent…
Sounds like fun! Hopefully I'll have time to jump in on this one. @Sziada - Looking nice! Are you using BSPs or importing static meshes? Here's some wood texture references and a great tutorial on hand painting wood textures by Philip K: http://www.pinterest.com/rachelclark5205/painted-wood-textures/…
Here are some good things to look at for texturing stuff to get you started. PBR: http://www.marmoset.co/toolbag/learn General Hardsurface: http://www.game-artist.net/forums/spotlight-articles/42-tutorial-hard-surface-texture-painting.html Hand Painted metal:…
Not sure if its any help, but here are a bunch of tutorials I've made (Not trying to shamelessly self plug, these are actually kind of old...): http://www.3dtotal.com/index_tutorial_detailed.php?id=1276#.TyW-LFz2Yg0 http://www.3dtotal.com/index_tutorial_detailed.php?id=397#.TyW-Dlz2Yg0…
Just to add my 2 cent as someone who didnt go to collage or university to study game art, is just do tutorials off gumroad and have some quality assents at the end of them. https://gumroad.com/acms or search for Tim Bergholz and do a gun tutorial. Good luck and dont give up. ps enjoy yourself
