Here is a few updates on the image. I'm trying a new process so I don't have very defined steps for this piece. Once this one is finished Id like to take what ive learned here and break it up into better process steps.
*Update worked on adding a little more definition on the shack, mainly making wooden planks more defined and a less tiled look, hope its better... moving on to creating some assets to fill the thing, and then I'll look into a little terrain patch for it to fit into :)
i think holding "J" toggles discreet mode and discreet mode can be set to a user defined amount. also the marking menus for select, move, scale and rotate work by holding q + LMB w + LMB e + LMB r + LMB
Thanks! Also, thanks for reminding me about hard brushes, I'll try to vary the hardness and opacity a bit more in the future :) I used a mask when working on the still life, maybe that's why the outlines look a bit sharper and more defined.
Oh and Wolthera, this is the skeleton of the big bad dude. I agree with you, it's not very well defined at all, but it is there. Yeah, he has really long limbs, but that's by design :D I think I'll take a break from the angel's face and work on this next.
I noticed with making trees myself that less is more. What I mean is you want to use more planes to construct with lots of negative space between the vegetation. This is so it can layer up without turning into a mass of green with no defining features.
I don't have any recommendations yet (sorry) but I'll post them when I get some, I'd just like to thank people for posting this and I will definately be checking most of them out (maybe even the User's Guide XD )
Can glowmaps be of a smaller texture resolution than your diffuse if they have less defined edges (as per face shown in example)? I am interested in why glow was used in the face. Wouldnt that be better for gloss (sharper specs) where he put such?
Looking better. I think you defined the area going from chin to jowls too dramatically. He seems to have a fairly smooth jawline for an old guy, most of his bumps and wrinkles are inside the fance structure. Keep it up man.
Yeah, always refreshing to see a good attitude. Definately look at the unearthly challenge, I learn a lot every year with Dominance War thanks to all the guys that take the time to critique and offer advice. I am sure the unearthly challenge will be the same.
