When you add the Unwrap UVW modifier, look in the "Parameters" roll out toward the bottom Deselect "Show Map Seam" -

You might need some additional support loops there. Chamfer modifier does help alot in making the high poly but is not a one-click solution alot of the time. -

why is he using that script in 3ds max ? Doesnt max have similar modifiers. Whats the difference between wrap deform and shrink wrap in this case in Maya ? -

Also, use Symmetry modifier to speed up modeling. If you don't like the middle edge loop it creates, you can remove it at the end after collapsing.
