i fear noone will have support for matX beside maya and big studio pipelines... if you store a vray shader in matX only vray is able to render it... its not a shader its a way to manage all nodes for a shader... but the shader could be anything...

ya im just mentioning to what end are you going to do this, the idea is to build your scene and run profiling tools on it, IF there are performance issues. These tools that most engines have built in will tell you exactly where the bottle neck is. Polys effect 2 things for the most part, it takes time for the GPU to draw…

Sometimes you have to hit escape lots of times(vray renders) and other times you can't cancel at all. It either takes a long time or it never ends... I usually save before doing operations I know are risky.
