Just drag and drop the texture file (e.g. png, tiff, tga, psd,...) onto your 3D model and it will create a placeholder material with that texture applied. Alternatively the manual way: Open the material editor and assign a new material to your object. In the material under diffuse assign your texture file (again you can…
About your original question of "I am seriously contemplating what my tri count should be"; You badly need to learn some restraint when creating a 'lowpoly' model. To that end, I'd say you should shoot for roughly early PS3/360 gen character specs; about 5-10K tris. With that much geometry you should be able to start…
I love my gateway conv. It says that it is only 256 levels of sensitivity, but all my recent sculpts were done on it and it rocks. Here is an example of done all on my wacom pen screen. http://www.codemanstudios.com/images/3D/NLF/Treevil01.jpg Plus it is so awesome with painter x, psd and art rage as well. No lag, very…
I like it so far. Isaac's voice is definitely not as bad as I feared it would be, the voice acting is good. Facial animation is much better, as is hair (you noticed how bad it was in the first minute of dead space 1.) Lighting is much creepier. Suit looks sleeker. More difficult (started on Zealot.) I have it for PS3, so I…
wowie ba-zowie! thats awesome. I rented this game way back in the day for ps2 and thought it was superb. I figured it would become a huge mega-hit so I'd figured I'd wait to buy it when I had the cash. Lo and behold it faded into the gaping maw of obscurity and then eventually resurfaced for huge dollars on ebay. I'm…
Dosent d3 combine both maps into a single cached .DDS file on loadtime anyway? I really dont see the point of using two maps when both arent even used at runtime. I generally just save a normals map psd(or even just have a layerset for normals in my base texture) so i can tweak the opacity of an overlayed extra normal…
hrm i am actually interested if you guys ( the one's who were there) have any opinions on the wii controller... is the system looking promising? i am a little biased, because i love nintendo so the fact that it will be inferior to ps3 and xbox360 in terms of computing power doesnt phase me at all... but i'd like to hear…
I've been using it alot lately for getting areas blocked out for things like patterns and lines that wrap around the mesh. I wish the viewport settings were easeier to work with. I also wish they had the same layer blend modes as photoshop. Helps when bringing in the psd to work on in layers. But I'm liking it alot more…
I don't see what you need a gloss map for, when the only thing that determines if something is "glossy" or not is the microscopic structure of the surface. "Glossy" things are generally smooth, and "dry" or soft specular objects are usually well, not smooth. Couldn't the same thing be accomplished through clever use of the…
I couldn't claim to be Manx and not plug this game, now could I? And it's not like I'm pushing a lame product either. I played this on the PS2 today, and the course is very accurate as is the trackside detail. Jon's Gran's house even has the right curtains in the front window. It's a shame that the screenshots on the…
