This one is great for modular pieces and getting the perspective correctly. Hence it gets my vote. second image gets my 2nd vote if the first one doesn't make it.

Yep that's what I was getting at. :) The realistic shift of the 2nd lobe is already present, they just expose parameters for you to tweak the shift independently on both lobes if you wanted to.

Yeah, you could just planar map the geometry from the side in a 2nd UV channel, and use a Gradient map from black to white, rendered on a black background.
