The bear looks really good, there's a great flow to the fur,, the pig looks nice too, but th bear stands out to me more, I can't wait wait to see what you do with it. -

floaters should align to the geometry they are floating above. if you were to do a test render using th emethod you described you would see that it would be completely wrong. -

the bottom right one has a brown furry area between th eyes you might want to get rid of that in case people think its some kind of nose. Otherwise its looking good.
