Yeah I meant in the order they're in in the subtool menu, I usually order them logically (using the keyboard shortcuts yeah, at least those work well). Yeah I don't think I'd like zprojects, I'm always loading other subtools to check stuff or import from previous models etc, so it'd get quite messy quickly.
From my own experience, it's just a fast way to get the ball rolling. There's no worry about topology, final quality, or optimization; it's just mashing together various shapes while pushing and pulling large clumps of verts to quickly work out the overall form and proportions you're after. Once you have that sorted out,…
I think the z-fighting bugs are due to the accuracy of the depth buffer. Reducing the camera's far clip plane will improve that. Although might cause far things to drop out more quickly if everything is already large. The shadow issue is part normal shadow issue but possibly you need to up the shadow resolution or reduce…
Oph, I didn't realise I sounded so defensive. Sorry. Also, I actually didn't have anyone quoted, I just replied. But then someone replied before me, so I quickly stuck in the quote so it made sense. I'll remove the quote if that makes you feel better? I dunno. I regret ever posting!
Naw, We've got tools to capture nice cube maps... I have a pretty nice library of HDRI's, and I'm trying to figure out a way to iterate on the lighting in a scene quickly, just to try out different times of day, and play with the mood set by the lighting. I'm basically trying to adapt the techniques I've used in the past…
All I've been using for the hair so far is just the clay buildup and the Orbs Crack Brush (Download link) (Vimeo link), with a bit of the Move brush to get the hair to flair out (Snake hooks work, but destroy the geometry pretty quickly so I avoid those until the end). I'll be redoing a bunch of the hair, I'm not totally…
You're pretty much right on me being new to 3D modelling, I've been able to pick it up very quickly but texturing is probably the hardest part of my quest to make Dota 2 items. I'll continue on with the "placeholder" texturing that I have so far. I'll also post some pictures of my current progress and my future progress.
Ha - ghaztehschmexeh beat me to it. Well, there's high recommendation. My son bought from PC Specialist who made up a custom gaming laptop very quickly for him. He's had no trouble with it and I'm buying a gaming/dev laptop with them myself as soon as the cash becomes available. Good luck, I hope you get a good deal!
Moving slow on this one. In Max now with displacement maps, normal maps and some flat colour textures with AO. Quickly put in some sunset lighting which is the mood I'm going for. He's almost completely rigged. Wanted to get him posed before tweaking the textures and lighting. I guess I'm going to move onto his hair and…
In canada, i've noticed a decline in max developers. Maybe it's just the companies on my radar, but rest assured.. there are still some out there that use max if that's what you prefer. I'll say this though, once you spend a week with a different program, setting up all your hotkeys/scripts.. you'll shrug off the new user…
