We got our Kinect units at work yesterday. Took it home and played Kinect Adventures. I must say, it's more fun than I initially thought it was going to be. I actually feel less stupid playing Kinect than I did waggling a Wiimote. The waggling always felt superfluous. If I was a kid, I'd love a Kinect.
Q: I'm struggling to understand why AO needs to be it's own map in modern renderers. A: It doesn't need to be. There is no hard rule that says you have to do it this one way. Depends on the project needs. Q: Is it only relevant for baked lighting in Unity/UE? A: It's commonly used to simulate ambient occlusion. Again, no…
I am aware, I pride myself in once being in the polycount wiki for the transfer attributes in Maya for this technique  Right now I'm trying to do it inside of Unity though. I know you could just do it in maya/max and import it, but I want to be able to do it in Unity for quick and easy iteration and also perhaps…
It's pretty much a sliding scale, what saves you time, costs you in quality and what gives you quality costs you in time. There really aren't any quality automated lip sync tools that do a good job, they're all pretty terrible but some of them might be within your tolerance of acceptable, it really depends on how low you…
Don't hate me matty but I cannot remember you from the forums. I still like wings because it does some really sweet dissolve work allowing me to quickly model things out. It is powerful and has it's place. Keep in mind spring doesn't use rigging, it is just hierarchical objects so we can easily do wings just fine. I am…
I search but I didnt find a good answer... in the past when I import like 4 or 5 fbx file with one material shared. in unity will put all the asset and one material "this material if I change, it will change all assets. but not anymore. now when I import to unity each assets they have their own material with same name ? I…
tbf - OP picked the right section of the forum and actually, this is probably a good place to get novice advice cos most of us are not proper coders :D While I'd normally suggest starting with python for people learning to code I think if you intend to make games then jumping straight in with the basic unity c# tutorials…
Yeah, was kindof tossed up on the wheel itself, planar from the side and deal with a little stretch or cylindrical and deal with a little stretch. (I think the wheel is fine as is- it can barely be seen anyway)). I think it's actually the front bumper you're seeing as distored, and you're right, looking at it fresh with…
Something i've been seriously thinking about getting into is the unity store to make a little cash on the side. Unity is a game engine that supports a wide variety of games of all production levels that would help you grow as an artist while making a bit of cash and helping pave the future of gaming at the same time. Check…
I would say you definitely need one full-color + lighting "glamour" shot, and at least one flat-wire shot with even lighting to show poly-flow and underlying construction. Showing full texture sheets is less common these days. No one really cares how the 2D paint job looks when its flat. As long as it looks good on the…
