A mix of the two workflows can work too. There's some obvious pieces you can keep, like say a barrel or something, but maybe the stock or main section has some intricate indents, etc. So maybe you retopo those manually. However you get to the low poly with the least amount of re-work is best.
the light makes sense emitting from the two largest points, but the others seem like screw heads so seeing them light up seems a bit off :/ the scratches are too heavy and uniform, i'd tone them way down except for the parts that will logically see more wear (edges). Is the second map the specular?
Catleaps are even cheaper than that, and they are the same LG panel too. Not really, depends on what he uses his PC for. SSD's have plummeted in price; I don't think PC's should be built without at least a 60GB SSD these days, as a boot drive, maybe a game or two. Then of course another HDD for main storage.
awesome site. usually you'd want only environment art but the characters show that you can do organic stuff as well. personally i'd say ditch the scarecrow and shaman. they kinda take away from the presentation and the other two characters show off your skill sufficiently. some wireframes would be nice too.
Big thanks for creating this wonderful little plugin!!! I made a test example to prove it works. The example is a simple window baked on a very low poly mesh with very soft normals. I made it into two smoothing groups to not stress the normals too much. But I am very happy about the result. Cheers! /Jenz
Thanks. I see what you mean. I'm also not completly sure about the yellow/green combination. Seems a bit too "lemon" for my taste. Maybe I'll try a few color variations ahead. Thanks! The column is almost ready. I think I'll be able to post new images in a day or two.
hey man, good start I wouldnt call it done just yet though, keep analysing the shapes and comparing them to the model. overlaying in photoshop and flicking between the two helps a lot. The spec looks wrong to me, way too harsh I think, I'd be careful about trying to match a photo that was taken with flash
The only two I plan to change are Alt+M and H. If Im merging vertexes it means that Im using the shift key to select them, and reaching from the left hand shift key all the way to M is a little too far to be comfortable. And that damn H key! Im always hitting it when tring to [G]rab.
Great idea Shepeiro! Not too keen on the plaster idea though, but, will give it a try. Here are two sizes that i came up with. The Brick on the left is the original and on the right are the changed ones. (Disregard the messed up textures on the bars and windows) Looking at it now, i do like the smaller bricks. What do you…
Use cut in edge mode. (I get way too much weirdness with cut in vert mode) Use the cut tool with 3D snap to mid point turned on. Select two edges and click connect. If you're using graphite modeling tools there is a swift loop function that places edges by clicking, you'll probably like it.
