I used the healing brush since it was invented and just realized the patch tool is way better in cs2 as they seem to have improved it's blending from cs1. -

i cant stand making selection sets for really complicated patterns and designs i have to texture so i wont get any bleeds. -

blend colors node pipe shader outputs into the color slots - your b/w mask into the blender slot pipe blendColors output into a surface shader -

also i think you could blend another texture with your tree bark texture to give it some more life.
