He's an old man. The posture and facial expression communicates mostly that he's an old man. Archtypical 40 year olds (ie. people who have 8 year old kids) don't hunch over that much usually.
Thanks Tung! This bug turns out to be related to the project being 16 bit. It has now been fixed and will be part of the next update (due tonight) -- meanwhile 8 bit should work fine. Thanks again, - Teddy

Just did this in Maya, may be the same for Max: in the Area Light attributes is a section that says "High Samples, High Sample Limit, Low Samples." My default High Sample was 8, bumping it to 64 fixed the shadow problem
The quality loss is mostly due to the conversion of magnitude component(alpha channel) from 32/16-bit to 8-bit. I decided to give Mudbox a try but I'm pretty sleepy right now :) I'll try it tomorrow.
I didn't have any problems like that I'm afraid. Have you made sure that they all have Admin privileges. I'm using Windows 8 as well so I don't know if that has something to do with it :\
Sure mate, the truth is I did more or less what Earthquake explains in this post (http://www.polycount.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1251420&postcount=8). I've also tried other ways, but this seems to be an easy and efficient method.
I applied for their internships this year... 3 of them specifically... even though I don't have a ton of work to show, I'll hope that my passion kinda shines through 8) I'd be honored just being interviewed
