I have 176M used with Opera running and Opera itself is taking ~30. Also, I've heard that putting your virtual memory on a RAMDisk will increase performance, as insane as it sounds. Windows always wants to page stuff and complained that my virtual memory was too small when my physical was still less than 50% full. -

Lowpoly, nearing completion. It's at 17.500 tri's now, 20.000 is the limit. Timewise i'm at 19 hours so far, for modeling only. This thing really is a lot of work! -

I'm a self taught digital painter and let me tell you that jumping in head first is a bit daunting. Start small and work your way up! :) I would learn to paint simple objects first. If I understood what you wrote, you said you exported a model from 3dsmax that had 17000 polygons. When you brought it into blender and checked the count of faces it was 34000. Assuming that all the polygons are quads (quads are two triangles), it would be safe to say that max was counting quads (polys) only instead of all… -
