I feel like the placement of moss could be more cleverly placed, seems a bit random and unnatural. Also your diffuse is a bit blurry and could be crisper, might also be that your normals don't come out very well. I say push it some more, let's the cracks and pocks and hilights from the minerals in the stone.
I like the basic concept and silhouette, but I can't tell yet what kind of material the creature is made from - the faceting and harsher edges suggest some sort of stone or mineral, but the less broken structure of the upper body and the joints suggests something organic, yet stylized. Basically, it's the difference…
I'm now going to move on to sculpting. What I'm going to try and attain is an almost stone sculpture like feel to the spaceships metal. I am posting a couple of my own references that I'll be going off of during this process. I'll be posting another update by the end of the day as well to show some progress. References:
Environment update: So recently I've been working on some foliage for the environment, I made this 'desert scrub' model to add some more interest to the scene / help break up the harsh line between the rocks and the terrain. I will end up making some small stones an boulders to help this, but is just foliage for now :)
No worries, I must have missed that part. But to echo others in the thread, work on your portfolio and if you can get an opportunity in QA or customer support then do it. Even if its not the job you want to do, it "can" be a good stepping stone and give you a better insight into the industry as well as open you up to more…
Great, keep pushing the textures. Your last pose is Best IMO. I think if you bring more warmth to the leather and Clarity to the stones in the gold pieces it will make it more visualy pleasing. The anatomy for the obliques is interesting, any refrence for that? Your sculping of the cloth and leather is very nice, what type…
Draw it...there is no way around it. I made my first concept in Paint and I got a collab on it. :-) You can do it! http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=174268372 This is the ward I did the concept for, I basicly painted the basic idea, a snake wrapped around a staff with a candle, he polished it and added…
Learning that 95% of Max and Maya is completely useless and watching tutorials teaching everything was discouraging and pointless. Watching artists just do their thing start to finish on a model was really eye opening at the time. Nothing is set in stone and you can do anything.. as long as you are quick, optimize and make…
I would say turn down the bloom and vignette a notch or two, and also lower the intensity of the ambient light to add more depth to the shadows. Also some of your low stone walls look like they're shading incorrectly (the bricks appear to be sunken in rather than sticking out) I like your grass and bushes!
Watched this last night. Amazing tutorial dude!! Just what I was looking for. Yes Gnomon is pricey compared to Gumroad tutorials, but if you want to learn how to make a badass tiling stone from start to finish, its definitely worth it...especially considering the great free tuts he has already done. Make moar!! :)
