thanks for the input 1. What do you mean by merging? as in open in ps and compose them? we have a tool for that, it combines the non padded layers and adds padding as a seperate layer underneath. i am really not sure if we should release this, it is very very limited to our workflow, uses a template psd to put all baked…
Day 7 (1 hour) Started on another headtest (the skull isn't finished and I will be going back to it) to try and think more about the muscles and the skull underneath. Mixed results I think, some bits I like and others look much worse than before. I will keep working on this today and try to sort out the eye area and make…
Thanks for the comments guys. I'm currently working on my base mesh... I'll post it soon. Bobo: Really enjoyed your workshop presentation. I should of said hi to you but I never got a chance to :( Murdoc: I cant say I really have a process for this stuff yet :) Most of the time I stop at something really abstract that I…
Dang, I was about to try writing something like that, in my attempt to make something while learning C#, so it's cool that now I can see what you did to make this work I was hoping to have a utility that will communicate with Photoshop, save out files and run some actions. It would be a windows app with simple interface.…
Imported the scene to UE4 and played around with baked lights. The primary light source is a Static Rect Light just outside the window. I slapped a few basic materials and adjusted the colors accordingly just to get an idea on what values I'll be using during the texturing phase later. I also turned off SSAO and turned on…
There is more going on than you'd think. Most of it is very subtle though. For instance there is a dirty layer in between the wood and the plaster, there is also blending between normal, specular, spec power, and diffuse maps. There is functionality built in that allows individual X and Y scaling of the two respective…
This is not accurate, and given that everyone in the community can only stand to benefit from more art being shared - be it 3D or 2D, it is not wise to discourage concept artists or illustrators from sharing their work. Necron - If you're looking for critique on this piece as an illustration, it's presently very simple and…
Thanks you so much guys for the great comments! its really apprecieted! @ motenai FOr manging all the diferent overlapping pieces i dont have any particular tricks, i just try to mak sure that my proportions are alright (wich i always end up reworking :D ) before adding to much pieces. For the surface details Basicly its a…
My main advice would be to A) Work on a far lower sub division layer until such a time that you find you cant add anymore detail, then, only then up the sub div layer and so on and so forth. Working in a very high SD layer right off the bat will almost always lead to that squishy look. B) study facial anatomy, particularly…
I can't do anything until I get home and I'm away this weekend but soon as I get chance I'll give you a guide/breakdown of how I made my carbon fibre; rather than me giving you a completed substance I think you'd get far more out of it creating it yourself. This project is the first time I've used SD and trial and error…
