Thanks for the answer, but the way you described is very uncomfortable and impractical. To relate the model with picture, you need in addition to the camera move/rotate plane, which somehow needs to be created exactly perpendicular to the camera, and the many planes around the model will interfere a lot.
okay this is a general overview of how i was up and modeling in maya in about a day or 2 in my freetime.. probably took about 5 to 6 hours total for me to be up and running. another note is i dont use much of the interface in any art package, i always learn the hotkeys or map them to my liking so the interface never gets…
Interesting idea, Eric. I think I'm probably best at teaching what I'm currently using. Right now I'm really focused on the node-based shader editor in the Frostbite engine at work. Since that engine is proprietary and only specifically useful for EA employees, the next best things is either Unreal or Unity. So I think…
I remember not too long ago a bunch of peeps on some tech forums where talking about creating a unified shader system via Python (I think?), with a user interface but coded. So basically, instead of having nodes, you would have editor under which you could put up words and what they all mean and have the engine load it…
thanks for the replies guys! worrying that experiences seem so different but i think while we would fancy going with a recent windows release over a five+ years old one, it appears the safe bet is to just run windows 7 and not even concern ourselves with the problem. while the initial batch of our machines will be…
Pie menus are better when implemented right. You see with menus, you pull down and search for some chunk of text. With pie menus, its not only more visual, but its pattern based. Brain can remember patterns of movement and enact them faster than looking for something down on a text menu. With patterns of movement, you dont…
You need to get your terminology right. The way you're asking "rigging vs morphs" makes it sound like they're opposite things, but they're not. Rigging is the process of setting up a mesh to be animated, usually providing a convenient interface (like visual controls) for the animator to use when animating that mesh.…
Not sure if you have been following along but... you can use these machines as computers. They come with the SteamOS already installed, and it has its own desktop interface as its build on top of a linux kernal. Additionally, if you wish you could install (or dual boot) to windows as well. Pop in a keyboard and mouse and…
Yeah if you are just starting out it can seem impossible. It's like asking how long a piece of string is. There are lots of ways to model what you need and it depends on what you intend to use the model for. A combination of ZBrush and Marvelous Designer is popular at the moment. Here is a screen cap I made years ago…
