In Maya there is something called Orient to edges, it's found in the UV toolkit, in the Arrange and Layout tab. You select the edge then press the button and magic happens.
By default, polygroups will be split into different OBJ meshes when exporting. To bypass this without merging polygroups, go to Tool: Export and toggle the Grp button.

Those are just mesh normal smoothing artefacts. Inside your edit poly find the smoothing group section and experiment with the buttons /read the documentation
