are you trying to connect the left & right joint to the one that's highlighted? If so, then select all three, making sure that center joint is green (should be the last one you selected), and hit "P"
Select the objects and try export selected, or export the entire scene? Either way the objects should export and load up correctly in Toolbag. What about this process specifically are you having a problem with?
Unwrap 1 brick. Select all the faces in the UV editor, right click, and pick Copy. Then select all the other brick and Paste. If the bricks have the same geometry this should work easily.
ODins3d the slide edge tool is not quite the same. With Max's adjust loop tool it adjusts both edges on either side of selected edge at the same time. Maya is just sliding the selected edge.
In Max, the functions that you will want to use are Remove and Collapse. Remove (Ctrl + Backspace) is usually used in conjunction with a loop selection. Collapse can work with vertices, and does quite well with Ring selections.
What happens if you select a vertic and move it to another vertic, does it snap? in that case it is working. I mean in your case if you want to select a vertic and snap it to another one, it will still snap.

Easiest way is via the Shape Editor. Create a blendshape node on your destination mesh. Then select your intermediate mesh with extra joints or whatever, then right click in the shape editor, and "Add selection as target".
Try mass selecting the ones you wanna edit and hit F9. It will enter vertex/component mode for all selected objects. You should be able to modify them together once you do that.
By default the scale hotkey is set to Smart Scale. This will cycle the different scale modes. I always change it to Scale Object, that way it stays on whatever mode I've selected. Same thing for the Select hotkey.
