Yeah, the latest one is still very WIP. Gotta get it a bit more interesting. I like the basic blocky layout of it but it is still missing something and needs better palette. Will try some variations :)
I remember reading something about a Photoshop-like layout for Painter, maybe this is it?: [ame=" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvPlWgCXI5U"]Photoshop User Workspace in Corel® Painter? 12 - YouTube[/ame]
it's a problem with your vertex normals, and there facing tonyd927. as a side note your UV layout is pretty bad it wastes a lot of space, and looks like you just masked a metal photoref with your AO
Try this tool: modify/snap together tool You can also try the layout tools (it's included in the bonustools). They have some good placement tools. If you want to place multiple objects, there's also mash.
I think ParoXum hit the nail on the head. Make sure you have some padding between each UV island in your layout: http://udn.epicgames.com/Three/LightMapUnwrapping.html#Where to place padding
I've been diving into website stuff over the past several days, and this just happens to be very similar to the layout I was fiddling with. Will have a look through, could save me loads of time. Thanks!
Quality, subject matter, very easy to view, and quickly... content over layout. This is a link to tons of portfolios and is all that you would every need to look at. http://www.polycount.com/forum/showthread.php?t=92838
just finish unwrapping, peeling, making your layout, etc, then, when you're happy, add the symmetry modifier and you're finished :P you can work with half a model for the whole unwrapping part.
Resurrecting this. It's 2012 and time for some updates... So taking what a lot of people have said here and going to slowly incorporate that into the layout updates. Also added a few new things... http://artbyjessemoody.com/
i agree with what has been said, but as far as design goes i would suggest removing the "~Portfolio~" all together. it will bring up your work and the links, and it will make the layout much cleaner
