I would just like to say that this has been shown to be the same thing whether it shows triangulation or not. Crytek staff stated it is the same consumption in memory on proxies regardless if you combine or do so like this thread states.

You can have a boolean or enumeration in the enemy char blueprint, that would change when it needs to go into different state. Then in the anim blueprint, you can just get that variable from the owner of the anim bp, and use it in a state machine.

I agree with you beefaroni. What is most important is how the artist responds to the state of being overwhelmed. What you have said so far is an excellent example of things that I would do myself when I get in that state in order to overcome being overwhelmed.
It was a long part of the project, but the HP is finally at a finished state. A lot of pieces that never made the cut. I'm happy with the flow of the topology. I found what it was tough: you need to force sampler states on everything, never assume the default states are used 'by default' (how ironic). In my case the 'clamp' flag supplanted the 'wrap' one on some textures where it was left blank.
