Try shrinking the template image to thumbnail size, and do 10 or so mini versions. This will keep you focused on creating the key 'primary' forms. Most professional artists do thumbnails of their work so as to get the key design problems ironed out quickly before they go into any sort of detailed work. In other words, know…
Cheers for the crits Joseph, I understand what you've said and it's definitely helped. I havent touched life drawing 2 or 3 since posting. But here's an update on the first: It's a shame because next year i've been told that we won't be getting life drawing classes :/ , gonna have to go out of my way to find some now.…
Do you though? Without some evidence of your own work, it'd be hard for us to make a judgment call. That being said, assuming your own concepts look like crud, it sounds like it would be best for you to dive into more academically driven foundational courses and study? Studying old painting masters, still life drawings,…
Update! I've been working on this guy for a couple of days and here is the result. Hope you guys like it! The idea of him came when I'm at the office, finished modeling some assets and had quite a lot of free time after that, and just begin to draw something, then he was born! *ok, for the face i intended to draw Dante…
Yeah I made it draw a progress bar for each element it finds, because on 10,000+ poly meshes it was getting quite slow, so if you've got a really lowpoly mesh with just a couple of elements it's gonna draw several progress bars really fast. Maybe I should make it check the number of polys and only start a progress bar if…
Sectaurs, ha! what to do with those goggle things ..... gauss, nice BS story about the goggles haha! and excellent observations. i love how you're always in that critical state of mind. that is a very useful characteristic as a concept artist. thanks for your comments, they are always something to consider. thanks for the…
william21984 painting in Zbrush is awesome, the only draw back is you are drawing on polygons. Where as Photoshop you are painting on a texture map. Itll be interesting to see where I come in VGremix, I seem to be getting a lot of good feedback .. fingers crossed! The bubbles and text are on a seperate alpha texture map…
very nice work!! I agree with @VeryCrunchyTaco on the rim lights in that most recent piece. also it doesn't seem to be so much of an issue in that picture, but based on the first ones you posted it looks like you might need practice drawing hands. find some good reference photos or draw from real life and try to figure out…
Yeah, what the 4chan discussion is trying to get at is that it is very easy to get caught up in anatomy (as in, "this muscle insertion goes here") while forgetting how these discrete parts combine into a greater whole - which itself can be simplified/stylized. A common example would be the case of naive pencil drawings…
You mean, just like two eyes??? :P I remember playing tricks to myself as a kid at school, drawing little squares at different distances and having fun making them 'pop' in front of the grid lines by "looking in 3D" :P For some reason I don't like it too much when it's a real life picture. It's more fun with miniatures,…
