Maya Goes Open Source
Autodesk annouced Maya is free for all, and now is on the same level as blender, free and open source. They also say if you bought it recently they will refund your money if it's been 30 days. Source -

For a further reference, most conferences and expos in the UK are practically free, with free talks. By UK standards, this is expensive, and GDC is downright extortionate. -
