This value allows you to group items together in a new Tab inside Maya Attribute Editor. In 3dsMax I believe the value is ignored (since the Material Editor panel has no grouping for DX materials)
Using a command line switch is better. Help file http://docs.autodesk.com/3DSMAX/13/ENU/Autodesk%203ds%20Max%202011%20Help/index.html?url=./files/WSf742dab041063133-5029f504112a1ce7dbd-7fee.htm,topicNumber=d0e466638
You could try to switch the display mode from direct 3D to software. I had to do the same when I used 3dsmax on my old thinkpad with intel graphics years ago.
Hey HirezJerry: Can Maya knowledge, or an open acknowledgement about being able to get up to speed about 3DSmax, okay for this application? I don't know how hard of a requirement that may be for Hirez.
It depends on what program you use. For example in Maya you can (in the Polygon Menu) go to Normals->Soften Edge while having the edge selected. In 3dsMax, you can use smoothing groups
Not really that , but from what I understood I was following an old tutorial based on 3dsmax 2009 , now since 2011 they added the temperature shader wich more or less does the same thing . thankyou .
Well, 3ds Max is known for attracting gremlins at night that fuck your meshes up, hadn't you heard? You should have previous save files in your Documents>3dsMax>autoback folder.
3dsMax is kind of awesome with these kind of scripts and contributions. Even though I hate max at times stuff like this makes up for it. Thx a lot for this awesome scripts, will give it a shot in the next few days
I'd Like this to be sticked in the tutorials section anyway is there a way someone could write the equivalent version for 3dsmax too? That woudl help a lot as I don't use maya :) ..... Sticking it anyway .... thanks a lot :)
Going through Tim's ( @rascal ) AKM tutorial now to learn 3DSMax and Substance Painter. Great tutorial and I've learned a lot! Just finishing up the high poly here and then onto unwrapping and texturing.
