ReTopping the Top and finished the head earlier this week. Thoughts on Topology? I wanted to minimise edge loops and maximise the geometry around curved edges and some areas to better represent the high poly model folds and edges.
max is auto triangulating the ngons and creating edges that all go to that bottom right vert. use the create edges tool to manually connect the edges in reasonable ways. also remind me never to import from sketchup!
Select center vertex -> to edge -> insert edge loop tool -> click and drag from near to that center vertex. couse absolute ofset get "as target" just this thertex - it's absolutely circle, no matter how many edges is.
Right, there is that gizmo, but it disappear during the extrude operation, in which it is replaced by this one instead: What I would like to have is that gizmo you've shown during the extrusion operation Alternatively, a way to extrude edges that doesn't require the extrude tool. In 3ds max you do it by shift+dragging an…
Sorry, I'm confused about what you mean by Hard Edge. What I think you might be saying is yes, I did grab all the edges and ran "Harden Edge." Not sure if that it is?
Are you also deleting the faces between them? Welding vertices doesn't work in 3dsmax if there is no connecting edge between the vertices (it works if the vertices are on a border edge though, no edge needed, there's no face between them).
Hm...one thing I can think of off the top of my head is having adding an edge loop near the tip and setting those edges to hard edges. Kinda sloppy, but that might work.
More hi poly your low poly is better it looks indeed but you have to keep in mind that you need your bake to look good on lods too. I often bake for lod02 initially. The way switching from lod01 doesn't cause sudden shading blinks. So more geometry is not an option usually. Also keep in mind that baking over hard/split…
Looking cool. I think the wraps could be a lot better, they don't really have depth and thickness right now, they seem to just have highlighted edges that are a little weird. The bark looks cool, but I think you could sharpen up some of the edges and avoid them been too rounded on the ends, maybe try a little jaggedness? A…
Another update, i'm in the process of trying to sculpt a barrel. I want it to look fairly stylized and was hoping i'd be able to achieve the same look I did in the 2nd picture I posted to this thread, however I got kind of lost along the way. My biggest annoyance is that I can't get the edge wear right on the crevices…
