Thanks guys, it was a lot of fun to work on. I got a pm asking about kitbashing and the designer blue room. For kitbashing, we had several tiling strip textures that had been sculpted for metal, stone, wood, etc. If we needed an asset and couldn't sculpt it for time or performance reasons we modeled it and textured it…
Had a week off because of the BAFTAs and extended CGMA work. This evening I made a fair amount of progress with the scene by extending the outer walls and adding roofing to areas of the map. Still a fair way to go with the overall scene but the level is really coming together now!
Looking at the pictures I should probably make a tile with only bricks and plaster to break up the houses, there is a lot of windows. Maybe make some simple antennas, pipes, ventilation boxes on the roofes etc to break it up a bit. Any ideas on how to improve the scene?
Your work isn't as bad as you probably think it is. Just watch out for objects intersecting unnaturally, like the struts poking through the roof or the vegetables with the bench (and each other), it makes them appear unreal. Colouring would appear more natural with shadows too.
looks great as a start, but i would like to see some stylization pushed further like slight curves on the walls roof, and the posts, and some slight colored gradients to really push that cartoony look it has already. something like this style maybe... good luck!
I think the hemi-sphere side walls and roof could use some interesting braces or struts protruding out to create a better silhouette. The up-close geometry is cool but from far away it looks flat. Perhaps look up Calatrava for some inspiration...
Still for a hp vehicle I can count the edges in your tires because they are not round. Fix that cause honestly for a HP model it looks ridiculous when stuff like that gets overlooked. Same goes with the roof mounted and the front bumper mounted lights. They aren't round.
Dude! Is there anything you can't do! My level of respect for you has gone through the roof. I hope you, and those in the accident recover well. I hope that if the a similar situation occurs near me that I can be as brave as you were. ( '-')b
This is looking like a good start. I think that there are too many straight edges going on though. If you spend a few more polys you will be able to add more denting to the roofs and walls. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with this scene though ^_^
Filled in all greyblocks, woot! Also added some hanging wires and banners, and a skydome. I'm still missing alot of small debris, signs, roof bits, chinese lanterns, a car. But I got the core of the scene down and gonna start assembling my textures.
